The complete system from $499/month

Jobber, Housecall Pro or a custom system: which software for a service business?

What American software really costs, what it does well, what catches in Québec, and when a custom system is worth it.

9-minute read · by Philippe, who runs a home-service business in Québec

For a service business in Canada, software like Jobber or Housecall Pro costs roughly US$20 to US$500 a month depending on plan and users. They are very good at scheduling, quotes and invoicing. What catches in Québec: US-dollar pricing and an interface built first for English.

I sell none of these tools and am not paid to recommend one. Here is how I would choose in your place.

What they really cost

SoftwarePlans (monthly, US$)Base users
JobberCore: $21 (billed yearly) or $49 monthly · Connect: $70 or $139 · Grow: $105 or $199 · Plus: $280 or $4991 user (5 for Plus)
Housecall ProBasic: $59 (yearly) or $79 monthly · Essentials: $149 or $189 · Max: $299 or $3291, 5 or 8 users

Prices posted on the official getjobber.com and housecallpro.com pricing pages, checked September 29, 2026. Both change prices and promotions often: check their sites before deciding.

What they do very well

Scheduling jobs, sending a clean quote from the phone, invoicing and collecting on site, keeping each customer’s file. For a business still on a paper agenda and email, it is a huge leap, for the price of one lunch a week on the first plan.

What catches in Canada

  • Language. Customers receive quotes, reminders and invoices. In Québec, if templates or interface stay in English, that is what French-speaking customers see of you.
  • US-dollar pricing. At the exchange rate, a US$199 plan easily passes C$270 a month.
  • Users. Entry plans include one user: with three crews, the real price is the next plan up.
  • What they do not do for you. Software is a tool. It does not follow up quotes if nobody sets up follow-ups, and it does not answer the phone.

When a custom system is worth it

A system set up for you, which is what I do, costs more than an entry software plan. It is worth it in three cases: you want everything in French as well as English, from the customer text to the invoice; your way of working does not fit the software’s boxes (recurring service, subcontractors, zones); or you have no time to configure anything and want it done and maintained.

If you are comfortable configuring software, have under five employees and a little time, start with software. It is honestly the best value. My prices are published.
